Verifying Connection

Test connectivity to the Ola S1 Pro onboard gRPC diagnostics daemon on TCP port 50005.

The head unit’s background daemon (/vendor/bin/diagnostics_server) listens on TCP port 50005. It speaks standard gRPC over cleartext HTTP/2 without authentication tokens or TLS certificates.

Before executing commands, we verify that your computer can reach this port and establish a valid gRPC handshake.

First, verify that the TCP handshake succeeds on port 50005:

Terminal window
Test-NetConnection -ComputerName "<scooter-ip>" -Port 50005

If successful, TcpTestSucceeded will return True.

Once the TCP port responds, send a gRPC call to verify the service is accepting RPC messages.

Download it here:

  1. Install grpcio, protobuf and psutil:

    Terminal window
    pip install grpcio protobuf psutil
  2. Execute the id command on the scooter:

    Terminal window
python s1util.py exec --host <scooter-ip> "id"
  3. Expected response:

    uid=0(root) gid=0(root) groups=0(root),1000(system) context=u:r:shell:s0

Connection Refused

  • Check if the scooter screen went to sleep. Press the power button to wake it up.
  • Verify that the scooter is still connected to the same Wi-Fi SSID.

Connection Timed Out

  • Ensure your router does not have “AP Isolation” or “Client Isolation” enabled. * Try switching both devices to a mobile hotspot where client-to-client traffic is permitted by default.

Invalid Argument / No Route

  • Ensure you appended the correct %scope identifier for your network interface.
  • On Linux/macOS, verify the interface name using ip link or ifconfig.

With confirmed connectivity to the diagnostics server, proceed to pair your ADB public key and enable wireless ADB.
